    Alla Vlashchuk

    Head of the Stroke Department

The Stroke Department specializes in providing comprehensive care to patients with acute cerebrovascular disorders, including ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. The department provides a full cycle of medical care, which includes emergency diagnostics, intensive care, medical and surgical treatment, early rehabilitation and prevention of recurrent strokes.

Upon admission, the patient undergoes urgent diagnostics, which include computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain, laboratory tests, ultrasound of the vessels of the head and neck, electrocardiography (ECG) and other examinations to determine the cause of the stroke and assess the patient's condition. Based on the diagnostic data, a decision is made on conservative or surgical treatment.

For patients who are suitable for the indications, systemic thrombolytic therapy can be performed as soon as possible (when applied in the first 4.5 hours after the stroke), which helps dissolve the thrombus and improves the prognosis for the restoration of neurological functions. In hemorrhagic stroke, the treatment tactics are determined depending on the size and localization of the hemorrhage. If the hemorrhage is significant or accompanied by compression of brain structures, neurosurgical intervention is performed.

The Department is a clinical base of the Department of Neurology of the Bogomolets National Medical University, headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Prokopiv M.M. The employees of the department – Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Sokolova L.I., Associate Professor, Candidate of Medical Sciences Dovbonos T.A. consult patients hospitalized in the emergency department. They are involved in difficult diagnostic patients who are hospitalized in a planned manner for additional examination and treatment.

The Department's specialists work according to modern international protocols, in particular the protocols of ESO (European Stroke Organization), AHA/ASA (American Heart Association/American Stroke Association).

The Stroke Department of Kyiv City Clinical Hospital № 4 is a place where patients receive high-quality, timely and effective care, which allows them to return to a full life..
